A weekend of superb conditions coincided with a trip up Ben Ledi. After a liberal dousing of Factor 50, we completed the circuit by ascending via the main path, then taking the route down through Stank Glen. There were fantastic views from the summit, which was a bit of a novelty for me – I don’t think I’ve even seen more than about 15 metres beyond the trig point on previous visits. The paths on the upper area of the mountain are fairly loose, and care was needed on the steep descent at the top of Stank Glen. We finished the day with an ice cream from the sweetie shop in Callander as a reward for our hard work in the sun.
The main path is still officially closed due to fallen trees; there is a way up through them, but it’s a fairly ‘adventurous’ undertaking and not to be recommended if you don’t fancy a bit of ‘assault course lite’.
