Absolutely stunning night with one of SiMY’s Bronze DofE groups – we travelled up to Aberfoyle, spent some time practicing putting up tents, setting up stoves and cooking some food. As it got dark, the moon appeared through the trees, providing an atmospheric background to our little camp fire. We had some fun with the Starwalk app on my iPhone, identifying some of the stars and planets we could see, then headed off to kip as the night got chillier.
It was frosty when we woke up, but soon began to warm up as we reviewed some of navigation basics, before heading off into the forest with the young people measuring distances and estimating times for legs. After a sunny lunch, we worked our way back to the car park and a chance to get those big rucksacks off – well done to all the young people who took part.
